by Julian Harrison
on March 12, 2012

These are the kinds of evenings that inspire. They inspire you to continue along the path that you are on and reiterate that intelligent, highly motivated people from a variety of sectors share the common goal of social entrepreneurship. On March 8th, the Social Enterprise Dragons event brought together members of Vancouver’s social enterprise community and those who believe that social entrepreneurship is the way forward in building healthier societies.

Enterprising Non-Profits is coming to Nova Scotia
by Andy Horsnell
on March 06, 2012

Like their counterparts across the country and around the globe, social enterprises in Atlantic Canada contribute to healthy and sustainable communities. They sell goods and services that may not otherwise be readily available in the community. They create employment, often for people who would be under- or unemployed without them. They help the environment by pursuing sustainable operating processes. They stimulate a rich arts and culture environment. And they contribute to the resiliency and sustainability of non-profit and other community organizations.

on February 06, 2012

Thorkil SonneLike many social entrepreneurs, Thorkil Sonne’s venture was borne of personal adversity. It began when he and his wife noticed their two and a half-year-old son, Lars, was different from other children, from whom he remained disconnected. An autism diagnosis would shock the couple to their core. “We realized new plans for our family had to be made,” Sonne related at a recent speaking engagement hosted by Ashoka Canada at McKinsey & Company's Toronto headquarters.
