Part of the Magazine’s History of Social Change project, the initiative will produce innovative storytelling celebrating Canadian heritage

Toronto, ON April 4, 2021//  The team at SEE Change Magazine – the digital publication of social entrepreneurship and social change – is excited to be the recipient of a grant by Heritage Canada that will enable it to expand its History of Social Change (HSC) project this year.

The History of Social Change, which launched in 2015, uses digital storytelling to highlight important social change movements in Canada’s history – and the changemakers at their heart. The mission of HSC is to ensure that Canadians learn about historical milestones that helped shape the country they know today. Since its release, the project expanded its reach with the creation of an e-book and workshops for classrooms, thanks to a partnership with the Toronto District School Board.

Leveraging the popularity of the HSC, the History of Social Change 2021 Commemorative Edition will highlight two significant events in Canadian history: the 75th anniversary of Viola Desmond challenging racial segregation and the 25th anniversary of National Indigenous Peoples Day. Thanks to the generosity of the Government of Canada, the grant will allow SEE Change to update the HSC platform and produce new digital stories, a webcast series and new lesson plans highlighting the historical events. The hope is that the new pieces of inspirational and compelling storytelling will help promote these anniversaries and inform the public and students of their significance in Canadian history.

Stay tuned as the production starts to ramp up this summer. For more information, visit SEE Change Magazine or the History of Social Change
